Healthy thinking - Reach for a pillow instead of a pill

A recent study published in the American Journal of Occupational and Environmental Medicine found a strong connection between sleep deficiency and not only pain, but also the ability to perform both work tasks and the day-to-day tasks associated with normal living.  Researches found that people experienced more pain whether they had insomnia or simply didn't, or couldn't, make sure they got enough sleep on a regular basis.  The findings are consistent with previous studies showing that lack of sleep can increase reports of new pain and that sleep-deprived people respond differently to pain stimulus.  With so many people turning to dangerous prescription drugs to combat pain, it might be helpful to know that hitting the sack might be just as effective as hitting the medicine chest.  (Source: Injury Prevention & Cost Control Alert)
